VIETNAM WOOD INDUSTRY

Wood processing industry of Vietnam has become a major export commodity, ranking 4th place after coffee, seafood, machinery and spare parts. Vietnam has become the leading wood exporter in Southeast Asia and the seventh largest exporters of wood in the world. The quality of Vietnamese wood products is always improved and competitive with other countries in the region.

In the first 9 months of 2018, planted forest area decrease by 0.6% and the production of wood chips decrease by 6% compared to the same period last year. The production of artificial boards (including plywood, veneers, hardwood, plywood and similar materials) was estimated at 4,815 thousand m3.

In the first 9 months of 2018, wood production volume is estimated reach 50.059 thousands, in which, seats and tables are still the two largest product groups with the rate of 41.3% and 23.3%. The consumption value of wood chip is estimated decrease by 0.7% and the consumption value of artificial board group is estimated decrease by 16% compared to the same period in 2017. The exports turnover is estimated increase by 14.4% compared to the same period in 2017. Wood and wood products are mainly exported to the US market increase by 15.75% compared to the same period in 2017.

Wood chips are one of the most important exports products of Vietnam. In the first 9 months of 2018, the exports turnover of wood chips reached 987 millions dollars.
The imports value of wood and wood products of most major import markets increased except Cambodia (-54.28%), Thaland (-15.85%), Malaysia (-3.95%).
