VIETNAM WOOD INDUSTRY

Vietnam wood processing industry has become a major export commodity, ranking the fourth position after coffee, fishery and machinery components. Vietnam has become the leading wood exporter in Southeast Asia and the seventh largest exporter of wood in the world.

Wood exploited in 6T/2018 increased by 9.1% over the same period in 2017. In 6T/2018, the import of raw material wood in Vietnam was estimated at x.xx million m³ of logs with a turnover of xxx million USD. Imports of logs and sawn timber were US $ xxx and US $ xxx million, respectively, while the corresponding figures were x.xxx and x.xxx million m³ respectively.

Wood chips production in 6T/2018 decreased by 17% over the same period of 2017. In 6T/2018, the production of artificial boards increased 15.7% over the same period in 2017. Wood products production fell slightly by 5.7% in 6T/2018 compared with the same period of 2017. Chair and table are still the most accounted products with 37.2% and 15.8% respectively. The consumption of wood chips in 6T/2018 decreased by 11% over the same period in 2017. Consumption value of artificial plywood in 6T/2018 decreased by 23.7% over the same period in 2017.

In the first six months of 2018, wood and wood products export turnover of FDI enterprises increased 4.8% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 43.2% of total export turnover of wood and wood products of the country. Import value in 6/2018 was estimated at 204 million USD, cumulative import in the first 6 months increased 1.9% over the same period in 2017.
