VIETNAM TELECOMMUNICATION INDUSTRY

According to the Department of Telecommunications, the estimated number of Internet subscribers nationwide by the end of 2018 was 76.76 million, of which fixed broadband subscribers were estimated at 12.56 million and mobile broadband subscribers were estimated to reach 64.2 million subscribers.

In general, the trend of using 2G service declined sharply over the years, while 3G service continued to increase in recent years, in which the development of Smartphones played a significant role. 4G service was officially launched at the beginning of the seconf quarter of 2017 and according to Opensignal, Vietnam’s 4G popularity was in the middle of the world at the rate of 71.26%.

By the end of 2018, the number of mobile subscribers increased by 4.7% compared to 2017 as the policies to cut down waste sims were not strict as before. In 2018, mobile service revenue continued to grow and was estimated to rise 3.25% compared to 2017. The number of mobile subscribers reached the highest from 2015, but the growth rate was not as expected because the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) tightened up the promotion forms of network operators down to 20% during the year, which led to the decline of card revenue compared to 2017.
