VIETNAM PEPPER INDUSTRY Q3/2018

Pepper is the most commonly used spice in the world today, which is a high-grade spice, occupying the leading role (about 34%) of total spice production traded in the world. The phenomenon of hot growth of pepper can lead to imbalance in supply and demand in the future when supply growth exceeds demand. Pepper consumption is mainly concentrated in areas with cold winters because pepper is a preferred food item in Western food due to its attractive aroma, moderate spicy level and very good effect in warming the body. The demand for pepper in the world is increasing, which makes the trade in pepper also exciting.

Pepper industry is one of the agricultural sectors that make an important contribution to the entire agricultural sector of Vietnam. Pepper industry in Vietnam has grown too hot in recent years, many households follow the movement has put pepper plantation on the wrong land and soil so easily flooded, acid sulfate, poor nutrition This causes the plant to lose nutritional balance, lose the ability to resist natural.

The area planted to pepper by the end of June 2018 was up to xxx thousand hectares, an increase of 16.5% compared to the end of 2017, mainly from the collective units, private units. Pepper output in Vietnam has doubled over the past decade, with a CAGR of 11.2% between 2009 and 2017, accounting for 38% of global pepper production. Pepper output in the first 6 months of 2018 is estimated at xxx.x thousand tons, up 6% compared to the end of 2017. Pepper produced in Vietnam is mainly black pepper with the proportion of 89% of total Pepper output and proportion of white pepper were 11%. Pepper consumption in Vietnam in 2018 is forecasted at 7,000 tons, up 12.9% compared to 2017.

In the first 6 months of 2018, Vietnam exported xxx.x thousand tons of pepper of all kinds up 5.2% over the same period in 2017. Vietnam pepper has been exported to nearly 80 countries and territories. In particular, the export of high quality goods to the US and EU countries is increasing. Average pepper export price of Vietnam boom strongly in the period 2012 to 2015, after a sharp decline from the end of 2015 to now. The export turnover of many enterprises is declining because the average export price of pepper in 2017 decreasing continuously from the end of 2016 has affected the business results.
