At present, Vietnam is the top manufacturing and exporting fishery product nation, beside Indonesia and Thailand. Exporting fishery product has become one of the significant sectors in the economy. In 2017, fishery product export was been estimated to achieve 8.315 billion USD, which rose by 18% compared to the same period in 2016 and reach the recorded ever due to many advantageous factors. In 2017, EU outdid America to become the biggest fishery product export market of Vietnam because shrimp export to this market rose significantly around 44.5 % compared to 2016. In 2018, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) predicts fishery product export will reach 8.5 billion USD, increased by 3% compared to 2017.

In 2017, despite the difficulties with the adverse weather factors, barriers to the market has significantly affected production and business, the fishery sector has recorded many achievements and achieved many flourishes.

The fishery sector has many favorable factors such as fishery logistics development has created conditions for fishermen off the coast, offshore fishing. In addition, marine aquaculture operations in the North Central Coast provinces have recovered from the marine environmental crisis in 2016. Shrimp supply in some producing countries and in the main importing markets has decreased, creating opportunities for Vietnam shrimp exports to increase export value in 2018.
