VIETNAM FERTILIZER INDUSTRY

In 2018, fertilizer consumption increased 1.4% compared to the same period of 2017. Fertilizer imports have fluctuated continuously for years due to the effects from domestic supply, import and export tax policies as well as small import markets. Vietnam decreased 10.5% in quantity incomparision with 2017.

In 2018, export fertilizer witnessed 9% reduction in quantity and 6.5% increase in value compared to the end of the previous year. In particular, Campuchia maintained the main export market, which accounted for 41.95 % of the total export quantity. The fertilizer export quantity dropped in almost countries excepted for Angola, which had a significant growth rate reaching 298% in quantity and 312% in value. The rapid growth took place in 6 last months in 2018.

Despite following the global price tendency, the fertilizer increase and decrease range was always lower than other countries. Fertilizer industry is in saturation state, domestic businesses had to compete more strictly to the import one wheares demand went on a downward tencency, which leads to the price-reducing pressure from 2018f to 2020f.
