VIETNAM AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

The automobile industry in Vietnam is mostly stopped at simple assembly. The localization rate is about 10%. Decree 116/2017 / ND-CP on automobile assembly, production and business has been promulgated by the Government to create new opportunities for the development of automobile production activities in Vietnam. In the first six months of 2018, the total number of cars produced and assembled nationwide reached 133.83 thousand units, up slightly 2.8% over the same period in 2017. According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association, in the first 6 months of 2018, the whole Vietnam automobile market achieved sales of xxx.xx thousand vehicles (including passenger cars, trucks, passenger cars / buses and some other vehicles), down 2% over the same period last year. In June, Domestic vehicle sales were xx,xxx units, down 1% from the previous month and x,xxx units imported vehicles, down 24% from the previous month. By the end of June, sales of assembled vehicles increased by 10% while car imports fell 49% over the same period in 2017.

 

In the first half of 2018, Truong Hai continued to hold the largest market share with 41% of total vehicle sales in the market. With a growth rate of 10-15% for the 2016-2020 period, the automobile industry will continue to grow strongly for smaller vehicles under 9 seats, while truckloads will slow down due to the balance need.
