VIETNAM PLASTICS RESIN AND SYNTHETIC RUBBER INDUSTRY

Plastic materials production in Vietnam in 6T/2018 was estimated at 447 thousand tons, of which main products are Poly Axetal, polyete and epoxy resins; polycarbonat, ankyl plastic, polyalyleste and other polyesters, primary forms … with the main production areas are Quang Ngai and Ba Ria – Vung Tau. It is estimated that in 6T/2018, domestic consumption of plastic materials reached x,xxx thousand tons, up 15.6% over the same period in 2017, although the price of plastic raw materials imported has increased about 10% compared to last year.

Plastic materials exports in 6T/2018 were estimated at 450 thousand tons with a turnover of xxx.x million USD, up 48.4% in volume and 3.8% in value compared to 2016. Vietnam plastic raw materials are exported mainly to Chinese market. In 6T/2018, imported plastic material gained x.xx million tons or US $ x.xx billion, up 12.7% in volume and 23.4% in value over the same period of 2017. Imports of synthetic rubber 6T/2018 is estimated at xxx.x million, up 5% over the same period in 2016 while exports of synthetic rubber only reached x.x million.

2017 was a difficult year for companies producing and trading plastic resins in the country, although revenue growth, profits and performance indicators are being decreased. The reason is that the price of oil has increased causing the cost of capital to increase sharply while the selling price is not enough to compensate. In addition, enterprises have to compete with imported goods with better quality and more preferential price.
