VIETNAM TELECOMMUNICATION INDUSTRY

Vietnam telecommunication industry continues to have significant growth potential, particularly in the field of 3G for mobile and FTTH for wired networks. According to the Ministry of Information and Communication, in the first half of 2018, telecommunication industry revenue was estimated at $ 7.89 billion, accounting for 49% of the plan set earlier this year (up 4.83% over the same period in 2017).

According to statistics of the Foreign Investment Department, up to the end of June 2018, the total registered investment in the information and telecommunication industry reached 166.49 million dollars from 107 new grant projects, accounting for 0.82% in total registered FDI. In the first 6 months of 2018, the media sector has fallen to 9th position in the most FDI invested sectors.

According to data of the Department of Telecommunication, by the end of 6/2018, the number of Internet subscribers nationwide reached 73.21 million, of which the number of fixed broadband subscribers was estimated at xx.xx million, equivalent to 18.39% of total number of subscribers using broadband Internet. The number of mobile subscribers charged by June 2018 reached xxx.xx million, down 0.4% from the end of 2017.

The revenue of Viettel and VNPT has not grown much in comparison with the same period in 2017. Representatives of VNPT, Viettel, VTC and Mobifone all said that the stopping payment of prepaid scratch cards in payment of digital content services has affected to the sales of these companies.
